As I dive into the sea of words before me, I find myself addressing you, my sisters, directly, in the spirit of Audre Lorde, who once said, “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” 

This sentiment rings true for each of us, bound together by our shared experiences, and it is in this spirit that we explore the strength and power of a black woman, and how we can acknowledge, cultivate, and celebrate it.

Why Strength?

Strength – a simple word with such profound implications. Is it merely physical prowess, or is it something deeper, something intertwined with the very essence of our being? Strength, my sisters, is multifaceted. 

It manifests itself in perseverance when adversity knocks, in gentleness when others expect hardness, and in the brave act of vulnerability when society demands invulnerability.

The Unique Strength of Black Women

Historically, black women have faced challenges, both systemic and societal, requiring an inner strength unique to our experience. This strength has been the backbone of societies and families and continues to inspire future generations.
